Taraba Operation: Soldiers Eliminate Four Militias, Arrest Policeman Over Alleged Collaboration

During an operation in Usmanu Village, Karim-Lamido Local Government Area, Taraba State, soldiers from the Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade killed four suspected militia members and found a cache of weapons.

The operation came after rekindled conflicts between the Shomo and Wurkun communities that were allegedly connected to a long-standing land dispute.
According to a statement released on Sunday by Lt. Umar Muhammad, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, the troops were sent in following reliable information that suggested hostilities had resumed in the region.

When the soldiers arrived, armed gunmen operating from the Fadama axis attacked them. Four militia members were killed in the ensuing brief gunfight, according to the statement.

Three Dane guns, a fake AK-47 rifle, 25 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and two motorcycles were found during a later sweep of the area.

The army also verified the arrest of a serving police officer who was allegedly discovered working with the armed organization, which is a significant development. The cop is reportedly being investigated to ascertain whether or not he was involved in the altercations.

Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commander of 6 Brigade and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, commended the soldiers for their prompt and expert reaction.

He reiterated the Brigade’s dedication to bringing peace back to Taraba State and maintaining pressure on criminal elements.

In order to support continuing operations, General Uwa asked the people of Karim-Lamido and the surrounding areas to maintain composure, assist security personnel, and supply reliable information. Operation Peace Shield, Operation Lafiya Nakowa, and Operation Zafin Wuta security operations would continue until complete stability is restored, he continued.
