On Tuesday night, suspected terrorists attacked Chisu village in the Mangu Local Government of Plateau State and set it ablaze, killing 11 people.
Around 11 o’clock at night, the victims are said to have fled to a house in the village for safety after hearing sporadic gunfire, but the attackers followed them there and set the house on fire, resulting in their deaths.
The deaths of the villagers in Jos were confirmed on Wednesday by Michael Bulus, a member of the Chisu community who managed to flee the attack.
Before fleeing, the terrorists allegedly set fire to a church on the Mangu-Bokkos Road as well as other buildings, according to Bulus.
According to Bulus, at around 11:00 p.m. last night, terrorists attacked the Mangu Local Government’s Chisu village.
“There were intermittent gunshots when the terrorists entered the neighbourhood, and the residents fled. Some of them fled to the home of a prominent member of the neighbourhood. Unfortunately, the terrorists burned down the house, and 11 burned-to-death bodies were later found this morning (Wednesday).
“The terrorists burned the COCIN Regional Church Council Bwai along Mangu Bokkos road in the local government along with other homes, cars, and tricycles before they escaped the neighbourhood.”
Alabo Alfred, a spokesperson for the Plateau State Police Command, did not return calls regarding the incident.
However, sources at the Jos command centre confirmed that more security personnel had been sent to the impacted community as a result of reports.
