The viral gospel song “No Turning Back,” which was created by Lawrence Oyor and Gaise Baba and has moved the Nigerian Christian community with its message of unwavering devotion to Christ, has prompted a response from Nollywood actress Ekene Umenwa.

Umenwa was seen dancing gleefully to the song in a video that she posted to social media, taking the chance to think back on her early days in the Nigerian film industry. She talked candidly about the pressure she felt to give up her religious convictions in order to succeed.

She wrote, drawing from her experience:

“Some people told me to drop this, you’re Jesus and Mary, and go with the flow so you can make it when I first arrived at Nollyhood years ago.”
