A cult-related conflict in Atan-Ota, Ogun State, has resulted in the deaths of at least three persons.
The incident in Atan-Ota occurred in the Kajola region on Monday at approximately 8:00 p.m., according to a security source who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the delicate nature of the subject.
The informant claims that suspected members of the Aiye and Eiye fraternities were involved in the violent altercation.
It was thought that the incident, which was purportedly carried out by Aiye members, was retaliation for the rival group’s previous murder of one of their members.
According to the source, three individuals suspected of being members of the Eiye cult group were killed when the attackers entered the area and fired several shots to create fear.
Between Aiye and Eiye, there was a cult conflict. Some Eiye members were killed by the Aiye group. They killed the victims after causing tension with their intermittent shooting as they invaded the neighborhood. About two weeks ago, an Aiye member was attacked by Eiye members, which led to the killings, according to the source.
Omolola Odutola, the public relations officer for the Ogun State Police, was not available for comment at the time of publication, thus attempts to reach her were futile.
