According to Dele Farotimi, a human rights attorney, any coalition between Nasir El-Rufai and Peter Obi before the 2027 election might not succeed.
The former Kaduna governor’s bigotry and inaction during attacks on the people of Southern Kaduna were reportedly denounced by Farotimi.
The former Obi presidential campaign council member told News Central that any 2027 alliance that did not ensure the support of the electorate would be a waste of time.
He claimed that the Middle Belt and Southern Kaduna peoples would not accept an alliance with El-Rufai.

Time is being wasted on 2027. And the question is whether Peter Obi should form a partnership with an El-Rufai. Did Nigerians form that alliance after they were granted citizenship and were able to cast ballots? If there is, I might consider the alliance’s content without assuming that someone like El-Rufai, who has committed numerous transgressions against Nigerians, particularly those in Southern Kaduna, will repent and take a back seat. I wouldn’t anticipate him taking center stage and letting people know.
“Because I’m not sure how anyone could envision Southern Kaduna residents gazing at an El-Rufai.” In a political party where El-Rufai holds a prominent position, I’m not sure how the people of the entire Middle Belt would tolerate him. “We can’t argue about his bigotry because it’s too well documented,” he acknowledged.
In response to the question of whether he would rather have President Bola Tinubu than El-Rufai, Farotimi stated that he was aware of Tinubu’s evil, but remembered things connected to the former Kaduna governor that made his skin crawl.
Tinubu is the devil I know, let me say that. How evil El-Rufai is, I’m not really sure. When I consider the things that have been connected to him, I simply know that he is intensely, profoundly, and it makes my skin crawl. His own public statements about how terrorists should be compensated, how you will pay for your debt to Fulani, and how the people of Southern Kaduna were treated like brutes.
As the state’s governor and main security officer, he had no comforting words to offer regarding these issues, regardless of whether he was directly at fault. I am also active in the Leaders Forum for the Southern and Middle Belt. I’ve heard individuals from the Middle Belt talk about how Fulani marauders have hurt them. And it terrifies me to hear someone now discuss the normalization of that degree of evil. Since it’s like to asking which hand I would rather have amputated, I am unable to dispute what Chidi Odinkalu said. He said, “Because the Nigerian people will not find salvation between the two of them.”
