Several terrorists were killed as troops from Operation Hadin Kai successfully repelled a coordinated attack on a Forward Operating Base in Mairari, Borno State, by the Islamic State West Africa Province, or ISWAP.
In a statement on Saturday, Lt. Colonel Sani Uba, the Joint Task Force North East’s media information officer, confirmed the strike.
He claimed that two Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive explosives (VBIEDs) were used by the attackers to try to enter the base, but the explosives were quickly identified and neutralized, preventing any base penetration.
The coordinated attack by ISWAP terrorists on a Forward Operating Base in Mairari was effectively repelled by troops of Operation Hadin Kai, severely impairing the group’s ability to operate in the region.
Coordinated ground and air operations prevented the assault, which started late on December 12 and lasted into the early hours of December 13, according to the statement.
Lt Colonel Uba also stated that OPHK forces of Sector 3 carried out a comprehensive operation in the region after the unsuccessful assault, with assistance from the Theatre Command Quick Reaction Group, the Nigeria Police Crack Team, and the Civilian Joint Task Force.
He stated, “The operation resulted in the discovery of multiple terrorist casualties and the seizure of weapons, ammunition, and logistics abandoned during their retreat.”
AK-47 weapons, magazines and ammo, PKT rounds, hand grenades, motorbikes, communication equipment, battle gear, medical supplies, and other materials suggestive of ongoing terrorist operations were among the recovered goods.
According to Lt. Colonel Uba, defensive fire destroyed the two neutralized VBIEDs and caused minor damage to two locations along the route.
He emphasized that the base had not been breached, demonstrating the troops’ readiness and alertness.
In order to stop additional terrorist activity and reassure the local population of the ongoing security presence, troops are maintaining vigorous patrols in the region.
“The unsuccessful attack at Mairari highlights our men and women in uniform’s professionalism and operational readiness.
He continued, “The protection of civilians, the disruption of terrorist networks, and the restoration of peace throughout the region remain the top priorities of Operation Hadin Kai.”
