Chief Ndubuisi Nwobu, the former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State, has called Nyesom Wike’s unwillingness to split from the party a cowardly move.
Nwobu told reporters in Awka on Thursday that it was illogical for Wike to publicly support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration while claiming to be a PDP member.
Despite his open support for the Tinubu administration, he said that Wike had the guts to formally defect by joining the ruling All Progressives Congress, or APC.
Wike would go get an APC membership card if he were a man enough. His insistence that he is still a member of the PDP while supporting President Tinubu makes me believe that he is a coward. Is that some sort of contradiction? You cannot advocate for one party’s interests while claiming allegiance to another. Political honesty doesn’t operate that way,” Nwobu stated.

He added that Wike had an excessive amount of power over the PDP while he was governor, serving as the party’s alias and choosing who would be appointed to important posts.
Wike pretended to be supporting the party at the time, but it is now obvious that he had other plans. He infiltrated supporters throughout the party hierarchy, especially among the National Working Committee (NWC). Nwobu claimed that although he pretended to be protecting the party’s interests, he was actually establishing the foundation for his own political aspirations.
He went on to say that because of Wike’s lasting influence, the party has found it challenging to discipline him because many of his supporters continue to hold important positions and serve as a buffer.
He was establishing himself while feigning to be employed by the party. From the national chairman to the secretary, the majority of the former NWC members owed their jobs to him. It has been challenging to address the issue directly because he continues to maintain their allegiance through money incentive, according to Nwobu.
However, he pointed out that attempts have already been made to free the party from Wike’s hold.
“The national secretary is out; we’ve already dealt with him. Others will come after. Removing his supporters from such important positions will help the PDP regain its integrity, he continued. The national secretary job is crucial in any party.
Nwobu disclosed that the National Executive Council, or NEC, will have a meeting in May to ratify the choices made by the NWC. A national convention will then take place, where it is anticipated that new leadership will be revealed.
“The political coloration that has held the party prisoner will be eradicated with the rise of a new leadership. Finally, Wike’s excessive influence will be eliminated,” he continued.
