The United States’ new visa restrictions on Nigeria are a direct response to the country’s failure to tackle terrorism, according to Comrade Timi Frank, former APC Deputy National Publicity Secretary.
In a statement on Friday, Frank said President Donald Trump’s administration imposed the policy to target terror financiers and sympathizers, which Nigeria has allegedly failed to address.
Frank praised Trump and the U.S. Congress for taking decisive action, noting that the move increases pressure on Nigerian authorities to be transparent about insecurity and terror financing.
He criticized the Nigerian government for refusing to release the list of alleged terror sponsors reportedly identified by the UAE, blaming political interference and corruption for the lack of progress.
Frank urged the U.S. to limit intelligence sharing with Nigeria until the full list of terror financiers is published and accountability is guaranteed.
“If President Trump had not stepped in, our leaders would still be looking away,” he said, adding that Nigerians now have renewed hope that the fight against terrorism can be won.
