Despite Nigeria’s heartbreaking elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs, former presidential candidate Peter Obi has called on the Super Eagles to persevere.
At the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat on Sunday, the Eagles lost 4-3 on penalties after a tight 1-1 draw over 120 minutes against DR Congo. This was their second straight World Cup qualifying loss.
In a post on his 𝕏 account on Monday, Obi praised the team’s dedication while acknowledging the emotional toll of the loss.
“Our dear Super Eagles, I know how deeply yesterday’s outcome weighs on each of you,” he wrote.
“I recognize the effort, sacrifice, and dedication you put into each game, and you carry the heartbeat of the entire country when you wear the green and white.”
Obi emphasized that the most crucial reaction is to rebuild with discipline and attention, urging the players not to let the setback define their future.
“But let this moment not break your spirit,” he uttered. The way a great team handles hardship is what makes them great.
“How we stand, regroup, and rebuild with even more discipline, attention, and readiness is what matters today. I’m sure you can get back up stronger.
The team was reminded by the former governor of Anambra State that the country still has a lot of faith in their skills.
“Do not allow today to overshadow the greatness of tomorrow,” he wrote. Eagles raise their wings instead of bending their heads.
“Maintain your commitment and keep your heads up. Nigeria has faith in you, and together we’ll rise once more. Keep flying, Super Eagles.
