Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello stated on Saturday that his current goal is to support President Bola Tinubu in his endeavors rather than pursue political office.
As one of the All Progressives Congress’s (APC) presidential candidates, the governor of Kogi State responded to a query on his future plans by pointing out that if President Tinubu wins, all Nigerians would have triumphed.
During the third annual GYB Seminar for Nigeria’s Political & Crime Correspondents/Editors on Saturday in Abuja, Governor Bello participated in an interactive discussion with media.
He praised God for his accomplishments as governor of Kogi and acknowledged that God had been good to him. I am pleased with where I have led the state, and I am aware of where I first encountered it.
“I think Usman Ododo, the APC candidate, will build on the strong foundation we have established for Kogi.”
He claims that the APC will win the next Kogi State governorship election by a landslide on November 11.
In response to a query on making sure that every member stayed in the state’s APC, Bello stated that the party was still strong in Kogi.
“The APC wins in Kogi and will continue to win because of our unity. We have one party. You can’t win over everyone. Nevertheless, we always made use of the APC’s own dispute resolution procedures,” he said.
The state’s commissioner for information, Mr. Kingsley Fanwo, claimed earlier in a paper titled “Unity in Multi-Ethnic, Multi-Religious Society, the Kogi Story” that any politician running on the basis of ethnic feelings was incompetence.
Fanwo declared that in order for the state to keep expanding, merit will continue to take precedence over ethnicity.
Additionally, Mr. Chris Isiguzo, President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), assigned members of the fourth estate of the realm to the role of responsible and ethical media in his paper titled “Off Season Elections, Journalists as Responsible Watchdogs.”
According to Isiguzo, journalists must guarantee transparency, confirm all facts, and validate all information they provide in their reports.
As responsible watchdogs of society, journalists have both chances and challenges during off-season elections, according to the president of NUJ.
“Knowing that the caliber of our reporting can affect the future of our country, I urge all of us to approach the job with a sense of duty,” he said.
Asiru Idris, Commissioner for Finance, Budget, and Economic Planning, said the Yahaya Bello administration intentionally implemented policies to ingrain good governance through accountability, transparency, and a decrease in the state’s debt load in a paper titled “Debt Burden, Transparency and Accountability in Governance: Kogi’s Success Story.”
“Kogi has started working on the 32-year development plan, which is essential to achieving Governor Bello’s goal of the state’s comprehensive development.
He continued, “Once the development plan is finished, it will serve as a focal point for interventions from development partners.”
Speaking on the topic of “Building a Viable Economy Through Strategic Investment in Education,” Mr. Wemi Jones, the Kogi Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, added that the state had mandated education in addition to providing free education.
According to him, Kogi’s financial allotment to the education sector increased from 13% in 2017 to 15% in 2019 and 30% in 2022—a figure that exceeds the 26% benchmark established by UNESCO.
