Alhaji Abdulkadir Ibrahim Bello has been appointed as the new Emir and Sarkin Katsina of Gusau Emirate by Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal.
According to reports, the new Emir of Gusau was appointed after his father, His Royal Highness Ibrahim Bello, passed away on July 25, 2025, after ten years in power.
The Gusau Emirate Council’s 16th monarch is the next Emir.
In accordance with established conventions and pertinent legal procedures, the appointment was made through the traditional selection process by the Emirate’s kingmakers, according to the announcement made by Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Abubakar Mohammad Nakwada on Monday.
According to the SSG, “his appointment was made in accordance with existing laws and customs and on the recommendation of the Gusau Emirate kingmakers.”

The eldest son of the late Emir, Abdulkadir Bello, was once known by the traditional title of Bunun Gusau, a distinguished position in the Emirate’s hierarchy, according to Naija News.
He continues a long-standing royal tradition with his new appointment, taking over the position that his father had previously had.
In addition to praising the new Emir, Governor Lawal tasked him with upholding the traditions of his late father and his forefathers, particularly his ancestor Malam Sambo Dan Ashafa, a highly esteemed historical person in the area.
“I implore you to shine a light of harmony, peace, and progress. Encourage peaceful cohabitation throughout the entire state of Gusau, not only within the Emirate, Governor Lawal stated.
At a time when the state is looking for peace and forward-thinking leadership, the Governor expressed confidence that the new Emir would contribute knowledge, experience, and continuity to the royal institution.
